Because it’s a gender-bent retelling. I was engaged by the story as soon as I met the main characters because I immediately realized it was going to be a P&P retelling I hadn’t encountered before. ![]() Not only is this incident beautifully described, but also the moral issue at the center is neatly posed. I've never seen such a terrible thing as that falling man." He fell as he had hung, a stiff little black stick. Perhaps from him, perhaps from some indifferent crow, a thin squawk cut through the stilled air. No forgiveness, no special dispensation for flesh, or bravery, or kindness. As Joe describes what happens: "We watched him drop. But then a stronger gust of wind sweeps the balloon over the edge.Īll but one of the men let go of the rope, leaving the last to be lifted high into the air. We identified variants likely causal after clinical and functional review (SMAD3, KIF4A, and PIGW) and propose novel candidate genes (PTK7, DNHD1, and TTC28) for early human developmental disease supported by functional and cross-species phenotyping evidence. Candidate variants were identified in 12 families (63%) in 6 of them a definite diagnosis was achieved including known or novel variants in recognized disease genes (MKS1, OTX2, FGFR2, and RYR1) and variants in novel disease genes describing new fetal phenotypes (CENPF, KIF14). ![]() We employed ES in a cohort of 19 families with one or more fetuses presenting with a distinctive anomaly pattern and/or phenotype recurrence at increased risk for lethal outcomes. Our objective was to use exome sequencing (ES) to increase our knowledge on causal variants and novel candidate genes associated with specific fetal phenotypes. ![]() The monogenic etiology of most severe fetal anomaly syndromes is poorly understood. ![]() ![]() ![]() By pushing the current boundaries of neo-Aristotelian metaphysics to recover the traditional notion of substantial forms in physics, reframe the principle of proportionality in biology, and restore the hierarchy of being familiar to ancient philosophy, this book advances a metaphysically unified framework that accommodates both scientific and theological knowledge, enriching the interaction between science, philosophy and theology. ![]() ![]() The chapters in this volume are collected into three thematic sections: Naturalism and Nature, Mind and Nature, and God and Nature. It features original contributions by some of the best scholars engaging with Aristotelianism in contemporary metaphysics, philosophy of science, and philosophical theology.ĭespite the growing interest in Aristotelian approaches to contemporary philosophy of science, few metaphysicians have engaged directly with the question of how a neo-Aristotelian metaphysics of nature might change the landscape for theological discussion concerning theology and naturalism, the place of human beings within nature, or the problem of divine causality. This book explores the relationship between a scientifically updated Aristotelian philosophy of nature and a scientifically engaged theology of nature. ![]() ![]() Like Thoreau, Jenna finds herself through watching nature, and seeing the manners in which she does or doesn’t fit in with her general surroundings. The periods of his adult life when he feels the most authentic and intelligent are also the ones where he feels most connected to his childhood self. After all, the entire point of the "Prelude" is to recount the speaker's artistic development, starting with his childhood the poem is premised on the idea that every phase of a poet's life will one day infuse their work. At the same time, the speaker's childhood self is undeniably an essential part of the artist he'll one day become. Elsewhere in the Prelude, he describes other children in the same terms, often identifying them as victims of a lost innocence.Ĭhildhood is such a distinct and elusive period that, in recalling his own, the speaker almost feels as if he's describing another person rather than a version of himself. This contrasts with a type of childhood that he increasingly notices and condemns-overeducated, constrained, and cut off from nature. ![]() Through these descriptions, Wordsworth embraces a prototypically Romantic ideal of childhood as a distinct period of authenticity and innocence. He remains free from the shackles of urban, adult society, and therefore is more in touch with underlying truths. ![]() In this state, the younger speaker is generally happy, often deliriously so. The speaker describes his childhood as a time of deep connection to the natural world. ![]() ![]() ![]() Would recommend if you like fantasy and mystery.įor a fantasy read, this reads well and quick.
